Waterdown bypass urgently needed

RE: Girl, 10, killed crossing road in Waterdown (May 18)

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

What a terrible tragedy in Waterdown. A young girl loses her life. Our sympathies to the family. Yes, indeed, heartbreaking for all of Flamborough and Waterdown. Yet totally preventable had the long awaited Waterdown bypass been built.

The City of Hamilton should be called to task for delaying this bypass. Subdivision after subdivision gets approved for construction, but the city virtually does nothing to develop better and safer roads to handle the increase in traffic.

Evans Road has become the bypass connector road to Parkside Drive. Both roads are substandard in design and travel through built up residential areas. It’s high time the City of Hamilton implements the bypass so that additional accidents and fatalities can be prevented. Andrew Schaafsma, Waterdown
