Toronto Police have released security video of the shooting death of a 33-year-old Hamilton man last month.

Leonard Pinnock, 33, was sitting in his car waiting for a friend in a parking lot at Dufferin Street and Bowie Avenue in York when two men came up to him and opened fire at 9:30 p.m. on April 22.

“They approach the vehicle in what I believe (is) a choreographed manner,” Det. Sgt. Joyce Schertzer told reporters at Toronto police headquarters Thursday.

“This is seemingly unprovoked. There is no exchange; there is no contact between the offenders and Mr. Pinnock.”

Pinnock, a father and DJ, was pronounced dead on scene and was Toronto’s 18th murder victim of the year.

“He travelled to this location as a favour to a friend,” Schertzer said. “There is nothing to suggest in Mr. Pinnock’s background a reason for any motive.”

Pinnock, dressed in all red, had been in the area waiting for his friend for a while before he was murdered.

When asked about the possibility that the shooters may have associated Pinnock with a gang because of his red clothing, Schertzer said, “I can’t confirm or deny that.”

Until the shooters are arrested, said Schertzer, “a lot of questions may still be unanswered with regards to motive.”

Shortly after the murder, police asked area residents to check their backyards for “discarded items” that might be carried in a pocket, such as keys or cellphones.

Schertzer said the community was “extremely co-operative” with the investigation.

“But the people that I’m trying to reach are the inner circle of these two offenders, their friends and family,” she said.

“They know who these two individuals are, and I’m asking them to call police, to call investigators. Give us their names. I want these two individuals exposed. I want them identified.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 13 Division at 416-8081300, the homicide squad at 416808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

Give us their names. I want these two individuals exposed. I want them identified. DET. SGT. JOYCE SCHERTZER
