Grimsby deserves a better hospital

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

RE: Budget cash could go to a new hospital in Hamilton

This headline should make people in Grimsby want to throw up and kick the wall. How could a new hospital be on the table for HHS when Grimsby Hospital is in dire need of replacement and was it not too long ago that meetings were held with ministry and they implied that money would be forthcoming?

Yes, we have significant redevelopment needs. The articles notes that a new women’s and children’s hospital would be built; St. Peter’s and McMaster University Medical Centre would stop operating. Where in the devil does Mayor Eisenberger get off saying what he wants and that he would like to see “Hamilton’s current hospitals modernized first? People, you had better start making phone calls, doing emails, writing letters to your alderman, mayor and our MPP telling them that enough is enough.

These people can be found on the Grimsby Town Council website, their telephone numbers, email addresses are all listed.

We have fought long and hard for a new hospital, even have some money set aside to help which I am sure Hamilton does not have. If you choose to sit back, saying “oh well nothing can be done”, God help you if you have to use our hospital. Nurses work hard with what they have but be prepared to spend 10 to 12 hours waiting for someone to see you. I like to believe that we are proud of our community and want the best for our citizens. Glenda Barry, Grimsby
