Hydro cost story deserved front page
RE: Liberal Hydro plan to cost $45B: Budget watchdog
Ontario’s financial accountability officer reports that the Liberal plan to lower hydro rates will cost the government (read taxpayer) a whopping $45 billion to save $24 billion on our monthly hydro bills over the life of the plan and that the $45 billion assumes a balanced provincial budget for the next 30 years.
Considering they have only achieved this once in their current mandate (aided by selling off part of Hydro to the public sector) they will need to find many more public assets to sell off if they are to achieve a repeat performance every year for the next 30 years because if they have to borrow to fund the promised reduction (which they no doubt will have to) the final tally could reach a staggering $93 billion.
These mind blowing statistics all stem from the mess mainly created by the Liberal’s green energy boondoggle.
To add insult to injury the Liberals are hoping that by election time in 2018 the Ontario electorate will be so grateful for the monthly hydro bill reprieve that they will have forgotten it was they who created the problem and that our children and grandchildren will be saddled with massive debt for years to come.
I found it disappointing that this important article was buried on page A12 of the Spectator instead of being plastered across the front page where information as serious as this should have appeared. Les Farrington, Ancaster
