Gold and platinum Junkhouse records stolen from local recording studio

- THE HAMILTON SPECTATOR

The owners of Hamilton’s Catherine North Studios are appealing for the return of two commemorative Junkhouse records they believe were stolen from a foyer wall.

The framed records — one marking gold status for the 1993 Junkhouse album “Strays” and the other recognizing platinum sales for the single “Praying for the Rain” — had been presented to studio co-founder and Junkhouse guitarist Dan Achen, who died of a heart attack in 2010.

Studio co-owner Dan Hosh said he believed the commemorative disks were taken from the wall near the studio’s side door on Thursday, June 22, while a recording session was underway.

The studio is located at Park and Murray streets.

“We think someone just opened the door and grabbed them,” Hosh said Wednesday.

A police report has been filed and the theft has been posted on the studio’s Facebook page.

Hosh said the records have great sentimental value both for the studio and Achen’s family.

“We’d just like them returned,” he said. “No questions asked.”
