Thanks to Local 1005

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION - RE: The state of unions

We keep hearing comments on unions in today’s world; good things or bad things? Well I have nothing but praise for my union Local 1005 USWA after their fight with U.S. Steel and others in getting some of our benefits back. Yes benefits back — the ones we worked and bargained for over our working years in those plants. So we hear people belittle unions, but I know where I preferred to work, in a union environment, as least I had these people fighting for me against this corrupt CCAA system. Also thanks to our local NDP people who helped us in this fight. It’s just too bad others in this city who promised us so much stood back and did nothing, and these people know who they are. So again thanks to Gary Howe and his executive for not leaving the retirees and their spouses behind. Harry Fitzpatrick, proud retired steelworker, Hamilton
