Man, 36, faces charges after allegedly ‘carjacking’ taxi

-

A 36-year-old Hamilton man is facing charges after allegedly being caught trying to get into an ambulance before carjacking a taxi.

The incident began around 7 a.m. Wednesday at James Street North and King Street East and was reported to police as a “carjacking.”

Police allege the man attempted to enter the ambulance, but was turned away by paramedics. He then allegedly approached a taxi and demanded the driver exit — the driver complied and the suspect drove off in the taxi. No one was injured and the suspect “made no threats of any violence,” police said.

Police found the suspect at Robert Street and James Street North. The 36-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released by police, is charged with robbery, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and failing to comply with probation.
