MacNab sprinter Cree Bell receives full scholarship

The Hamilton Spectator - - SPORTS -

She’s got another year at Sir Allan MacNab, but Cree Bell already knows where she’s going to university.

The talented sprinter, who won the city title in the 100 and 200 metres and SOSSA over 200 metres, will attend Southeastern Louisiana on a full track scholarship. The university, located in Hammond, La., has one of the top track programs in NCAA Division-I.

“Ever since I was a little girl it was an intention of mine to get a scholarship down south,” Bell says. “It was important to me to go to a school that was not only strong in track but in academics.”

An A-student, she will study biology or environmental sciences.

Bell concedes she didn’t have a good performance at OFSAA this year, falling short of making the finals in her sprints.

Bell said Southeast Louisiana wants her to try the 400 next year, and she is taking the summer off from competition to work on her strength “so I can be ready for next year’s season.”
