Police standoff ends safely with man’s arrest
Hamilton police safely convinced a 39-year-old man in crisis to put down his weapon early Tuesday, ending a more than two-hour standoff that included a 37-year-old woman being held hostage.
Police confirmed there were two children in the central Hamilton home, who were safely removed by police.
No one was injured in the incident on Madison Avenue near Cannon Street East, which saw a significant police presence, including an armoured vehicle, negotiators and several cruisers.
Police were called there around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the man putting down his weapon around 2 a.m. He was apprehended by police and taken to hospital.
He is facing charges of assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.
