SIU investigating death of man, 50, in police cell
Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the death of a 50-year-old man held at a police station in Thunder Bay, Ont., on Wednesday. The Special Investigations Unit says police, along with paramedics, were called to an address on Fort William Road just before 8 p.m. about an individual. In a news release Thursday, the SIU says after being medically cleared by paramedics, the man was taken to a police station where he was placed in a cell. The agency says that shortly after midnight, the man was found not breathing. Paramedics rushed him to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
