Where should these trucks go?

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

RE: Truck safety in Hamilton

I feel the need to question Coun. Matthew Green’s “ferocious appetite to change the truck culture” around Hamilton General Hospital. Where does he suggest the trucks that need to access east Hamilton industry go? These are designated and necessary truck routes and, contrary to the scare mongers, I am not aware of a rash of incidents and collisions involving trucks in this area any more than any other area of Hamilton.

And the idea that commercial trucks are using these “four- and five-lane highways” (Really? Exactly what roads are you referring to, Mr. Green?) as “shortcuts” from the QEW to the 403 is simply ludicrous; there is not a truck driver in the province that would willingly weave their way through downtown Hamilton roads and traffic and call it a shortcut. I can, with absolute confidence, tell you that the trucks using these routes have business in the area and no other options. Mark Reindl, Burlington
