Lower RHVP and Linc speed limits to 70

RE: Why are there so many crashes on the Red Hill? (July 17)

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

The Parkway is not at fault. It never has been, it never will be. It’s the humans driving their car, trucks, bikes that are 100 per cent at fault. Either they’re not paying attention to the traffic and road conditions.

You can line the Linc and RHVP with cars full of people and no one would get hurt. But let them do 100+ km/h and chaos ensues, people die. It’s still not the road’s fault.

Just consider how many millions of passenger miles have been safely driven since the roads went in. They are safe roads. These are not highways though the public uses them as such.

Now, if, you want to make them safer simply reduce the speed from 90 to 70 km/h. That’s still 20 km/h faster than any other city road so no one should complain. It’d be a great ‘cash cow’ for the city as well, catching speeders doing 100+ in a 70 zone!

If the city is seriously concerned about safety, rather then do a two-year long real study, reduce the speed to 70, count the beans and post the results. Jay Miller, Greensville
