A three-year-old boy in Hamilton’s east end was taken to hospital after his family’s dog bit him on the head Wednesday.

The boy was in “stable condition,” but still needed care at the hospital, EMS District 2 supervisor Jeff Dunford said.

Paramedics and police received the call to the Rosslyn Avenue North residence between Main Street East and Dunsmure Road around 6:30 p.m.

Staff Sgt. Steve Hahn said the child’s parents were at home when the attack happened, noting “nothing untoward” contributed to the dog’s behaviour.

Calling it an “isolated incident,” Hahn said the dog may have reacted to something the youngster did.

“Animal control was advised. It was an isolated incident.”

Hahn said he wasn’t familiar with animal control’s protocol in such a situation.

“As I understand it, the dog will not be removed from the home.”
