Knap­sack drive

A knap­sack drive to help youth from dis­ad­van­taged ar­eas start school right is kick­ing off. Wes­ley Ur­ban Min­istries seeks knap­sacks and school sup­plies, or mone­tary dona­tions. Bring dona­tions start­ing Tues­day, Aug. 1, to 155 Queen St. N. (lower level) 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Mon­day-Fri­day af­ter that. Gen­eral fundraiser

Con­struc­tion worker Joey Hack­ett was nearly killed when an 18-tonne grader backed over him last year. He sur­vived thanks to Hamil­ton Gen­eral and re­hab cen­tre. He’s co-host­ing the Sept. 16 Strides for The Gen­eral fundraiser at Bayfront Park. It fea­tures a 5K walk, and 5K and 10K runs. To reg­is­ter: hamil­ton­health.ca/strides.

All aboard

The an­nual boat cruise by the Hamil­ton/Burling­ton branch of the Ukrainian Cana­dian Congress is Satur­day, Aug. 12, aboard the Har­bour Queen, at 47 Dis­cov­ery Dr. Board­ing 12:30 p.m., the cruise runs 1 to 3:30 p.m. Dur­ing the cruise of Hamil­ton Har­bour, en­joy Ukrainian mu­sic and food.
