Separate dollars fund separate boards
RE: School boards
The diehards are at it again, blaming all that ails the public school board on the fact that in Ontario we have both a public system and a faith-based Catholic system. The writers and your readers should keep in mind:
First, only Catholic home or business owners can designate their tax dollars to the Catholic system; that at high school level, any student in either system can, regardless of their parental home tax designation, decide to go to the high school of their choice as long as it is in their catchment area; and last but not least, the system provides a calculation, far too complicated for me to explain, which pays the respective board for this choice if need be.
Do only public school supporters give what one can consider public dollars? Or we might ask, is a Catholic school supporter’s tax payment any less public than a public school tax payment? Judy Baillie, Ancaster
