HELP FOR THE HOMELESS

The Hamilton Spectator - - LOCAL -

The city’s Street Outreach Team is made up of public health and psychiatric nurses, housing workers, social workers, a youth worker, a harm-reduction worker and an addiction counsellor. The team’s job is to meet with people on the street to help them access income resources, health care, housing and other support, says public health spokesperson Aisling Higgins. That includes “building trusting relationships” with people who “may or may not be living with mental illness/addictions,” she noted. Outside agencies, such as Wesley Urban Ministries, also help out.
