On a recent Sunday we held our annual picnic at the Battlefield Park pavilion as we have for many years. We are a veterans’ association and love the location and solitude.

We were appalled by the insulting, disgusting, horrible, offensive and racist comments written on the walls and picnic tables. I vented my frustration to the staff at Battlefield and was informed that this happens all the time and they try to clean the mess before a picnic.

Racism is ignorance and is bad. To the individuals who are doing this, its neither funny or smart. You will be caught because there will be more police surveillance. Do something constructive rather than destructive. We happen to love Hamilton and want to keep it clean. Marie DiVittorio, Hamilton
