EAST MOUNTAIN BANANAS

The Hamilton Spectator - - LOCAL -

Lisa Rudd-Scott is a little shocked but absolutely thrilled that the banana tree she picked up at the Gage Park Greenhouse plant sale on June 3 is blossoming and actually producing bananas. When she and her daughter carted the 3.1-metre plant from the greenhouses and stuffed it into the back of the family’s SUV for the trip back to their east Mountain home, she wasn’t sure how the plant would fare. But with nothing invested apart from a large pot, some soil and some fertilizer, she thought she’d give it a try. Rudd-Scott isn’t sure where her new banana tree will spend the winter. Although she is "not a big baker" Rudd-Scott might want to get a hold of a good banana bread recipe.
