Well done on Indigenous games

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

RE: NAIG coverage

I would like to give a kudos, props or a shout out (or whatever the kids are saying nowadays) to The Spec and Steve Milton for the excellent coverage of the North American Indigenous Games. It was daily front page news. Through the paper I found out about some events and I was able to go to McMaster and see and feel first hand the energy and positivity the games had.

Also I must acknowledge that The Spectator is doing its part on the recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation findings. Reconciliation isn’t just between First Nation peoples and the government, but with all peoples of Canada. Part of the recommendations was the promotion and spreading of cultural awareness of Indigenous people. By having such coverage of the games, the Spectator filled this mandate by bringing stories of today’s First Nations people in a modern athletic setting while paying attention to past traditions and history.

Congratulations to all event participants and organizers of the NAIG. And again thanks to The Spec for putting good news stories about our First Nation Peoples where they should be; on the front page. Andrew Schroeder, Hamilton
