Woman charged with failing to provide care for mother, 90

The Hamilton Spectator - - LOCAL -

A 65-year-old woman has been charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life after her mother was found in an “unhealthy state” Friday night.

Police said they checked in on the well-being of a 90-year-old woman, who was living with her daughter around Barton Street East and Emerald Street North about 7:30 p.m.

The home was found in a “deplorable condition,” and police said they became concerned about the level of care the mother was receiving.

Police charged the daughter with failing to provide the necessaries of life, because of the “lack of care, food and the condition of the environment” her mother was living in.

The mother was taken to hospital with dehydration and is in “continued care,” police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Const. Jon VanOene at 905-546-3818.
