Ancaster taxpayers getting a raw deal

RE: Taxes in Ancaster

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

My home in Ancaster is valued at $700,000. I pay $6,700 in property tax. It has come to my attention that a home on Mill Street in Waterdown valued at 1.2 million pays $5,294 in property tax!

In comparison a home on First Road in Stoney Creek valued at $700,000 pays $4,238 in property tax!

Is this a joke? Am I dreaming? How on earth can there be such an enormous discrepancy in property taxation within the Greater Hamilton Area? Why are the residents of Ancaster forced to pay such huge property tax bills? This is absolutely ridiculous ... Darrell J Hicks, Ancaster
