Impairment ruled out in city’s 12th motor vehicle fatality of the year
Hamilton police have ruled out impairment in the death of a 75-year-old woman involved in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters spent the better part of an hour trying to free the woman from the Hyundai Accent she was driving.
The car flipped onto its roof following the collision on Concession 11 East near Centre Road around 3 p.m.
The Hyundai was going east on Concession 11 East when it collided with a Chevrolet Impala going south on Centre Road approaching the other road.
A man from Hamilton was driving the Impala.
Police said Thursday evidence “at the scene indicated the Hyundai failed to yield the right-of-way to the Chevrolet.”
Both drivers were taken the hospital, where the woman succumbed to her injuries. Her identity is not being released as police are still locating next of kin.
The collision is the 12th motor vehicle fatality this year.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Det. Const. Matt Hewko at 905-546-4755, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1800-222-8477 and online at www.crimestoppershamilton.com.
