Im­pair­ment ruled out in city’s 12th mo­tor ve­hi­cle fatality of the year

Hamil­ton po­lice have ruled out im­pair­ment in the death of a 75-year-old woman in­volved in a two-ve­hi­cle crash on Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon.

Fire­fight­ers spent the bet­ter part of an hour try­ing to free the woman from the Hyundai Ac­cent she was driv­ing.

The car flipped onto its roof fol­low­ing the col­li­sion on Con­ces­sion 11 East near Centre Road around 3 p.m.

The Hyundai was go­ing east on Con­ces­sion 11 East when it col­lided with a Chevro­let Impala go­ing south on Centre Road ap­proach­ing the other road.

A man from Hamil­ton was driv­ing the Impala.

Po­lice said Thurs­day ev­i­dence “at the scene in­di­cated the Hyundai failed to yield the right-of-way to the Chevro­let.”

Both driv­ers were taken the hos­pi­tal, where the woman suc­cumbed to her in­juries. Her iden­tity is not be­ing re­leased as po­lice are still lo­cat­ing next of kin.

The col­li­sion is the 12th mo­tor ve­hi­cle fatality this year.
