The Na­tional Day of Re­mem­brance and Ac­tion on Vi­o­lence Against Women ser­vice was held at the Na­tive Women’s Cen­tre Wed­nes­day. Left, can­dles were lit to re­mem­ber the 14 vic­tims killed by a gun­man at Ecole Polytech­nique in Mon­treal on Dec. 6, 1989. Pho­tos of the some of the vic­tims were on dis­play. Bot­tom right, Chris­tine Shawana was a friend of Tashina Gen­eral, who was mur­dered in 2008. Shawana says she is still taken back when she sees her friend’s face as part of the dis­play of Miss­ing and Mur­dered Indige­nous Women which was on dis­play in the Cer­e­mo­nial Room at McMaster’s Indige­nous Stud­ies Depart­ment, part of the univer­sity’s Day of Re­mem­brance re­mem­brance com­mem­o­ra­tion.
