Man hit by car on York Blvd. in crit­i­cal con­di­tion

A 21-year-old Hamil­ton man has been iden­ti­fied as the pedes­trian struck on York Boule­vard Wed­nes­day morn­ing.

Hamil­ton po­lice say they’ve no­ti­fied fam­ily and the young man re­mains in crit­i­cal con­di­tion in hos­pi­tal.

He suf­fered se­ri­ous head injuries af­ter be­ing hit by a west­bound car on York near the Hamil­ton Ceme­tery around 6 a.m. Po­lice said he was hit af­ter step­ping off the north-side curb.

The car’s driver stopped, called 911 and of­fered med­i­cal as­sis­tance un­til first re­spon­ders ar­rived. Speed and al­co­hol were not fac­tors.

The crash closed York for sev­eral hours be­tween Dun­durn Street North and Plains Road West.

The col­li­sion re­con­struc­tion unit is in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
