Main and King are city responsibilities

-

RE: DID JOHNSON CAVE IN OR SEE THE LIGHT? (MARCH 7)

Andrew Dreschel sketches some of the deliberations that lie behind road maintenance in Ward 1, but fails to discuss an issue that is surely of general relevance.

There are local roads, used mainly by local residents, and there are arterials, like Main and King, that are used by people from all over the city, and indeed beyond. To make each ward responsible for the arterials that pass through it makes no more sense than making the City of Hamilton responsible for its portions of the 403.

Provincial highway: provincial responsibility. Urban arterial: city responsibility.
