Fire­fight­ers knock down blaze at east-end townhouse unit

Hamil­ton fire­fight­ers have put out a blaze that broke out in an east-end townhouse com­plex around 1 p.m. Thurs­day. There was heavy smoke in the base­ment when fire­fight­ers arrived at 33 Lang St. shortly af­ter­ward. “The fire’s been knocked down,” fire in­for­ma­tion of­fi­cer Clau­dio Mostacci said around 1:20 p.m. “It’s been con­tained to one unit.” Paramedics were as­sess­ing one of the unit’s oc­cu­pants, Mostacci said. Lang Street is just north­west of the Red Hill Val­ley Park­way near Queen­ston Road. Fire­fight­ers re­mained on scene to ven­ti­late the unit.
