GIGUERE’S 63-SAVE EFFORT IN Game 1 of the Mighty Ducks’ first-round series against reigning-champion Detroit in 2003 set the stage for an unlikely upset. From the start, Giguere played as if there was an invincible aura surrounding him. In the first OT, Detroit’s Luc Robitaille whipped a shot past Giguere and the Wings celebrated as if they had won. But Giguere knew the shot hit the post, and he skated from his crease, waving his arms to signal no goal. A video replay confirmed it, and the game continued, with Giguere denying Detroit until Paul Kariya won it in the third OT.
