Sim­ple, fast and ef­fec­tive for the ath­lete on the go, En­ergy Ball Cook­ies are the per­fect snack to have an hour be­fore ac­tiv­ity, says Pearle Neren­berg, au­thor of The Nu­tri­tion

Edge for Hockey Per­for­mance. The cook­ies are sim­ple to put to­gether and a fa­vorite of Neren­berg’s ath­letes. Bet­ter yet, the cook­ies can be eaten as more than just a pre-game snack if the in­gre­di­ents are mod­i­fied slightly. “They can also be a great ad­di­tion to a re­cov­ery snack pro­vided you add a pro­tein source to them, such as eggs, cheese or, for ve­gan ath­letes, a soy milk,” Neren­berg said.


3/4 cup gra­ham cracker crumbs 1/4 cup raisins 3 tbsp peanut but­ter 2 tbsp honey 2 tbsp skim milk pow­der 1 tbsp wa­ter 2 tbsp co­conut flakes


Place the co­conut flakes in a shal­low dish, and com­bine re­main­ing in­gre­di­ents in a sep­a­rate bowl. Form eight balls, and roll each ball in the in the co­conut flakes un­til the ball is cov­ered. If the bat­ter is too dry, more wa­ter can be added. If the co­conut isn’t stick­ing, each ball can be basted in a small amount of liq­uid honey. A serv­ing is two balls.
