P.K. SUBBAN RETURNS TO MONTREAL

The Hockey News - - The First Word -

It was one of the most shocking trades in NHL history and one which has been a non-stop source of debate ever since. When the Montreal Canadiens traded Subban to Nashville for fellow defenseman Shea Weber, they ripped the hearts out of many Habs fans – even though Weber ended up playing very well for the team, as was expected.

The Canadiens faithful got their chance to fete Subban in March, when the Predators visited the Bell Centre. Montreal always does ceremony right, and this was no exception. Subban was honored before the game with a tribute video that included on-ice memories and his charitable work with children, prompting a standing ovation from the crowd (including from Jean Beliveau’s widow, Elise, a longtime Subban supporter) and chants of “P.K.! P.K.!”

Of course, there were tears from Subban as he acknowledged the fans. Montreal ended up winning the game on a late goal by Paul Byron, but Subban’s season went much longer as he helped the Predators get within two victories of a Stanley Cup, while Weber and the Canadiens bowed out in the first round to the New York Rangers.
