What to make of 23-year-old RFA MAX DOMI. Is he the precocious left winger who burst onto the NHL scene at 20 and led Arizona forwards with 52 points, including 18 goals? Or is he the snake-bitten winger coming off back-to-back nine-goal seasons, a 2016-17 injury and a declining shooting percentage? With Domi’s first-round pedigree, you’d like to think he’s more the former, but GM John Chayka shouldn’t lock him up to a big-ticket contract when he’s been more of the latter. A two-year bridge deal is fair for both sides, though if the Coyotes really believe in him, they’ll want to get his name on a long-term deal with an average annual stipend in the more modest $4-million neighborhood.
