Interactive displays, a robot and more than 110 projects will be featured next month as the annual science and technology fair returns to Loyalist College.

This marks the 57th anniversary for the Quinte Regional Science and Technology Fair which takes place April 1. Participants have been working hard to complete their projects, register and select the awards they wish to complete for, organizers stated in a press release.

The participants will be presenting to parents, fellow students, judges and the public for many awards. The science youth of the region are looking forward to sharing their scientific discoveries and research. There have been many science fairs, clubs and classes developing projects for this year’s event.

“We now have over 110 projects registered with more science fairs on the horizon. We look forward to every student and try to provide a space for him or her,” stated the fair’s chairperson, Scott Berry.

This year the Bios department of Loyalist will be putting on many displays and hands on experiences for the students. In addition - Let’s Talk Science, a national outreach science program - will be providing hands on displays as well. The Kiwanis Club, Health Unit and other organizations will have displays as well.

The fair is expected to attract many dignitaries and Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis is expected to attend and serve as a special judge and presenter. In addition, a Grade 1 class will be presenting for the first time and Mimetics, a Canadian Robotics Company, has donated a programmable robot as a prize and one for demonstration purposes.

“This will be an amazing opportunity for a school and the fair to present the latest technology to their students,” stated Berry.

Those wishing to contribute to the future of young scientists and the fair are asked to contact qstf@ live.com or visit our website and donate through the GoFundMe Link. The Quinte Regional

Science and Technology Fair is now a non-profit incorporated organization and, as it has been for the last 57 years, has been made up completely of volunteers.

Those students that win the grand prize are awarded an opportunity to compete at the national level. The 56th Canadawide Science Festival will be held this coming May in Regina, Saskatchewan. This year we will be sending up to three participants to compete at the national level. This is always a great honour and our top prize.

The award ceremony will begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the Automotive Centre. The public viewing hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
