Staff at G la nm ore National Historic Site have danced their way into the next round of voting in an international competition.

The site’s dance video entry, Glanmore Loves Cats, beat out three other museums to win the Eastern Canada Division of the Museum Dance Off 4 competition on Tuesday.

The competition is organized by www.whenyouworkatamuseum.com to show that museums are fun and exciting places full of “... talented, creativepeople who love what they do .” A record 41 museums from around the world have produced dance videos to highlight their museums, artifact collections, staff and volunteers.

“The video was a lot of fun to produce and is quite funny to watch,” stated Melissa Wakeling, Glanmore’s education and marketing co-ordinator.

Glanmore’s entry into the competition features museum staff, volunteers and students from the Student Leadership Program at Queen Elizabeth Public School dancing to the 1980s song “The Love Cats” by The Cure.

G la nm ore received more than 9,144 votes, equaling 39 per cent of all of the votes received for their division, to become Eastern Canada champs.

Wakeling was astounded by the level of community support.

“We received so many messages of encouragement, and just kept watching our vote numbers climb with amazement,” she stated.

The video can be viewed at www. glanmore.ca/museum-dance-off/.

More public votes will be needed in the coming weeks. Glanmore will now have to face the Western Canada divisional winner on May 5 for the National Championships to determine which museum will represent Canada in the international “Thunderdome” finals on May 8.

Online votes will determine which museum video will receive all the bragging rights.
