In­vic­tus Games flag tour stop­ping in Quinte West

QUINTE WEST — The City of Quinte West has been cho­sen as a lo­ca­tion for the In­vic­tus Games Na­tional Flag Tour.

The tour will stop at the Afghanistan Repa­tri­a­tion Me­mo­rial (327 Dun­das St. East) in Quinte West at noon on Mon­day, Septem­ber 18.

As part of the 37 day jour­ney across the coun­try lead­ing up to the Games in Toronto on Septem­ber 23 to 30, lo­cal ath­letes will be par­tic­i­pat­ing in the In­vic­tus Games.

Founded by his Royal High­ness, Prince Harry, this in­ter­na­tional sport­ing com­pe­ti­tion is for ill and in­jured ac­tive duty mem­bers and vet­er­ans. The mis­sion of the games is to hon­our the men and women who have come face-to-face with the re­al­ity of sac­ri­fic­ing for their coun­try, us­ing the power of re­ha­bil­i­ta­tive sports to help them on their jour­ney to re­cov­ery.

“We are ab­so­lutely thrilled to have the In­vic­tus games in Quinte West this year and we look for­ward to hon­our­ing those whom have sac­ri­ficed their life for oth­ers. It is with great hon­our to not only sup­port this event, but hold it at our Afghanistan Repa­tri­a­tion Me­mo­rial.” stated Mayor Jim Har­ri­son. Three flag bear­ers have been se­lected to rep­re­sent the City of Quinte West and 8 Wing/CFB Trenton.

Lisa-Marie Gueron has been se­lected to bear the flag on be­half of Quinte West and will be par­tic­i­pat­ing with her ser­vice dog “Dice.” Lisa-Marie founded Do­minium As­sis­tance Dogs which trains ser­vice dogs to as­sist in­jured vet­er­ans and the gen­eral pub­lic. She has served 16 years in the Cana­dian Forces as a Medic and Traf­fic Tech­ni­cian and was de­ployed over­seas on mul­ti­ple tours of duty. Gueron en­deav­ours to help her fel­low vet­er­ans with their strug­gles and dis­abil­i­ties to help pro­mote re­cov­ery and qual­ity of life. She has trained dif­fer­ent cat­e­gories of dogs and other an­i­mals and has redi­rected her ca­pac­ity as a pro­fes­sional dog trainer in the as­sis­tance dog ’s field. Her in­ten­tion is to pro­mote health, re­cov­ery and qual­ity of life through ca­nine as­sis­tance.

(Ret) Mas­ter-Cor­po­ral War­ren Brace has been nom­i­nated by the 8 Wing/CFB Trenton In­te­grated Per­son­nel Sup­port Cen­tre and is ex­cited for the op­por­tu­nity. He will be par­tic­i­pat­ing in the In­vic­tus Games.

Mas­ter War­rant Of­fi­cer David My­ers is nom­i­nated as the 8 Wing/ CFB Trenton De­serv­ing Mem­ber to par­tic­i­pate on be­half of the Wing. He is a re­mark­able ser­vice mem­ber and has been ex­tremely com­mit­ted to as­sist­ing with events such as the High­way of He­roes Bike Re­lay. He’s also a mem­ber of 2 Air Move­ments Squadron.
