Weapons, drug charges
Two area men are facing weapons charges following an incident in the city’s east end on Tuesday. At 1:39 p.m. an officer on patrol observed a car speeding through the parking lot on the east side of the Bayview Mall. During the subsequent traffic stop, the driver provided a false name. He was arrested for obstructing a police officer. The officer observed an eight-inch knife beside the driver’s seat, as well as a canister of “bear mace.” Once the man’s true identity was determined, a check revealed he was prohibited from possessing any weapons. As a result, 32-year-old Aaron Hills of Trenton was charged with obstructing police, weapons dangerous, possession of a prohibited weapon and possess a weapon while prohibited. He has an October court date. A passenger in the vehicle was also in possession of “bear mace.” He was arrested and a search revealed a quantity of methamphetamine (crystal meth) in his sock. Matthew Brushey, 29, of Belleville was charged with weapons dangerous, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to appear in court next month.
