Fans asked to give blood after hockey player hurt

OMSK, Rus­sia — A Rus­sian hockey team has asked fans to give blood to help a player who was badly hurt dur­ing a game.

Avan­gard Omsk for­ward Niko­lai Lem­tyu­gov suf­fered in­ter­nal in­juries after be­ing hurt in a Kon­ti­nen­tal Hockey League game Tues­day. He was rushed to the hos­pi­tal and had his spleen re­moved.

Avan­gard called on fans with the same blood type to come to the hos­pi­tal in the Siberian city of Omsk and do­nate to help Lem­tyu­gov re­cover.
