Theft, pos­ses­sion of stolen prop­erty charges

Two city men have been charged fol­low­ing a shoplift­ing in­ci­dent at a North Front Street busi­ness. Belleville po­lice were called to the store just be­fore 7 p. m. Thurs­day. Two men were ob­served on video par­tic­i­pat­ing in the theft and leav­ing the store. Po­lice lo­cated the pair in a ve­hi­cle in the city’s east end a short time later and they were ar­rested for theft.

Other stolen prop­erty was lo­cated in the car, as well, re­port po­lice. David Ash­ley, 31, of Belleville, was re­leased on a prom­ise to ap­pear with charges of theft un­der $ 5,000 and pos­ses­sion of stolen prop­erty un­der $ 5,000. He was given a De­cem­ber court date to an­swer to the charges. The sec­ond man, a 27- year- old Belleville res­i­dent, was held for a bail hear­ing on charges of theft un­der $ 5,000, pos­ses­sion of stolen prop­erty un­der $ 5,000 and pos­ses­sion of a pro­hib­ited weapon in re­la­tion to a but­ter­fly knife lo­cated on him dur­ing the ar­rest.
