Theft, possession of stolen property charges
Two city men have been charged following a shoplifting incident at a North Front Street business. Belleville police were called to the store just before 7 p. m. Thursday. Two men were observed on video participating in the theft and leaving the store. Police located the pair in a vehicle in the city’s east end a short time later and they were arrested for theft.
Other stolen property was located in the car, as well, report police. David Ashley, 31, of Belleville, was released on a promise to appear with charges of theft under $ 5,000 and possession of stolen property under $ 5,000. He was given a December court date to answer to the charges. The second man, a 27- year- old Belleville resident, was held for a bail hearing on charges of theft under $ 5,000, possession of stolen property under $ 5,000 and possession of a prohibited weapon in relation to a butterfly knife located on him during the arrest.
