A fzal Shaikh has a teaching accreditation that very few of his colleagues can lay claim to. In fact Shaikh, the Technology & Learning Coordinator at The York School, is one of just 20 Google-certified teachers in the country. That puts him at the cutting edge of technology integration in the school system.

“My unique role at The York School allows me to empower students to leverage iPads, Google Chromebooks and laptops within our classrooms,” he says. “A transformation takes place in the classroom when integration aligns perfectly with learning outcomes.”

In addition to supporting students, Shaikh also meets with faculty and staff to mentor, guide, and plan alongside them to assure that technology is being used in tandem with good pedagogy to drive learning. “Classroom innovation takes place when we provide educators with the right tools and training to integrate effectively.”

“By using techonological resources to establish authentic audiences for student work, we convey to students that their work is worth doing, worth seeing, and worth sharing,” he says, “Breaking through these traditional classroom boundaries allows students to see the wider impact of their ideas.”
