SUNNYBROOK SCHOOL

The Kids Post - - Registry of Educators - IRENE DAVY PRINCIPAL

Sunnybrook School is a family run school that was founded in 1952 by Dr. Irene Davy’s mother. “I love coming to school in the morning; each day is so full of promise for our students,” says Dr. Davy.

Dr. Davy introduced the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) to Sunnybrook in 1999, and quickly became very involved with the IB Board. “I am so fortunate to work with colleagues in IB, to develop curriculum and train teachers around the world. During my time on the IB Board, I was able to learn from inspiring educators and also have an impact on the development of programs. The IB PYP gives our school an effective framework for creating optimal learning experiences for our students.”

Developing the skills and dispositions of a globally competent individual is a goal for Dr. Davy and her faculty. This approach begins in JK, teaching and modelling thinking skills to develop confident, independent thinkers and learners.

“Our youngest students continue to surprise me with their curiosity, engagement and eagerness - they are so excited to learn about their world. We want to nurture that spark of curiosity so they keep it throughout their school years and beyond.”
