Full slate running in Happy Valley-Goose Bay election
Three running for mayor, 12 for council
The nomination date has passed and the names are in for the upcoming municipal election. While most municipalities in the province are having issues finding candidates, Happy Valley-Goose Bay is bucking that trend with 12 people submitting their names for council positions and three vying for the title of mayor.
Running for mayor are current councillor Tony Chubbs, former deputy mayor George Andrews and former mayor John Hickey.
For council four current councillors are running, Bert Pomeroy, Jackie Compton-Hobbs, Wally Anderson and Reg Bowers. Also throwing their names in the hat are Michelle Baikie, Shawn Crann, Brian Davis, Rupert Dawe, Lori Dyson, Scott Hudson, Wilbur Patey and Joe Tremblett.
The election will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 26 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. The polling stations will be located at the following places:
Polling Station # 1 - Royal Canadian Legion
Polling Station # 2 - Northern Cross Church
Polling Station # 3 - GBAC Office, Spruce Lodge 104 Travis Street
The advance poll will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the town hall from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Fifteen people have put their names forward in Happy Valley-Goose Bay this election.
