Recruit-hungry OPP holding Chatham event
Ontario Provincial police plan to hire hundreds of new officers annually for the foreseeable future and are holding a symposium in Chatham to help potential applicants be their “competitive best.”
Sgt. Patti McPhail, a senior recruiter with OPP West Region, said the Saturday, Dec. 1, session will explain the recruitment process to interested candidates.
Officers of varying ranks and backgrounds, and auxiliary members will take part in a questionand-answer session.
And certified fitness appraisers will mentor small groups on the Ontario Fitness Pin, which is part of OPP testing, she said.
McPhail said with one OPP officer retiring each day, “it’s a wonderful time to be considering a career in policing.”
She said the OPP aims to hire 100 to 120 recruit constables graduating from each of three classes a year at the Ontario Police College.
