Let’s get real

The London Free Press - - LETTERS -

As a proud Londoner, and a proud Canadian I am happy with the world’s perception of Canada as a peacekeeper and a country of decent people who open their doors to citizens of other nations to make a good life here with us.

I’m happy about the low unemployment rate here in London of 4.9 per cent and I’m even happy that NDP MP Irene Mathyssen will have a nice comfortable pension when she retires.

I’m happy that many people can make free comment on the fact that Saudi Arabia has a bad human rights record.

But come on, people, there are many countries around the globe that are even worse: China, India, the Middle East, Russia

General Dynamics employs thousands of fine people who work hard and contribute to society and look after their families, and if this contract is cancelled by those who would make political hay (even though they have nothing to lose) it would be a disaster for all of us.

A deal is a deal and if we throw in the towel on this, there are others just waiting in the wings to take over this lucrative opportunity.

It’s guaranteed that Mathyssen will not be standing in the unemployment lines or on welfare as many of the workers of GDLS would be if this contract is cancelled. Eva Bartsch London
