Plekanec re­tires a Hab

To­mas Plekanec is re­tir­ing af­ter the Mon­treal Cana­di­ens placed the vet­eran cen­tre on un­con­di­tional waivers for the pur­pose of ter­mi­nat­ing his con­tract. Plekanec said that while he still wants to play hockey, pos­si­bly in his na­tive Czech Repub­lic, he’s not in­ter­ested in be­ing claimed by an­other NHL team. “I al­ways wanted to re­tire as a Mon­treal Cana­dien,” Plekanec said. “It’s some­thing that I’m re­ally proud of.” Plekanec, who played his 1,000th NHL game on Oct. 15, hasn’t played since Oct. 17 and leaves the NHL with 233 goals and 375 as­sists.
