Out­door Wood or Solid Fuel Burn­ing Ap­pli­ances. Coun­cil has passed third read­ing of By­law No. 2154 to pro­hibit in­stal­la­tion and use of out­door wood or solid fuel burn­ing ap­pli­ances. This does NOT in­clude in­door heat­ing such as fire­places and wood stoves, only spe­cific out­door units as de­scribed in the by­law. The full by­law can be found at www.ed­son.ca/by­laws.

By­law Changes. Coun­cil has passed first read­ing of De­vel­op­ment Au­thor­ity By­law No. 2167, Sub­di­vi­sion Au­thor­ity By­law No. 2168, Sub­di­vi­sion and De­vel­op­ment Ap­peal Board By­law No. 2169, and By­law No. 2170 amend­ing Land Use By­law No. 2070. These changes were at the di­rec­tive of the Mu­nic­i­pal De­vel­op­ment Plan Steer­ing Com­mit­tee and one of the main goals is to pro­vide the Town Man­ager and/or his des­ig­nate with more au­thor­ity in cer­tain ar­eas. For ex­am­ple, pro­cess­ing De­vel­op­ment Per­mits for dis­cre­tionary uses and pro­cess­ing sim­ple sub­di­vi­sion ap­pli­ca­tions with­out hav­ing to wait for a meet­ing with Town Coun­cil or the Mu­nic­i­pal Plan­ning Com­mis­sion. This should help with bet­ter turn­around times for de­vel­op­ers. A public hear­ing for the Land Use By­law 2070 amend­ments will be held at the Town Of­fice on Oc­to­ber 27, 2015 at 1:30PM.

Recre­ation Com­plex Up­date. The Ed­son and Dis­trict Recre­ation So­ci­ety has given no­tice that it will be tak­ing steps to dis­solve as a so­ci­ety. This would re­turn the Recre­ation Com­plex build­ing man­age­ment to the Town of Ed­son. In dis­cus­sions with Yel­low­head County, the Recre­ation So­ci­ety, and the cur­rent Recre­ation Com­plex man­age­ment team, the Town of Ed­son has be­gun the process of tak­ing over. The Town will man­age the fa­cil­ity un­der the Rec So­ci­ety dur­ing this tran­si­tion pe­riod, which will end on De­cem­ber 31st, 2015. Dur­ing this time sta­tus quo will be main­tained. In the New Year the Town of Ed­son will take over full con­trol and plans are be­ing drawn up to op­er­ate the fa­cil­ity with a model sim­i­lar to what is be­ing done at Tal­is­man Place.

Vi­o­lence Threat Risk As­sess­ment Com­mit­tee. Coun­cil has ap­proved the Town of Ed­son to sign the Com­mit­tee’s In­ter­ven­tion Pro­to­col doc­u­ment, with the un­der­stand­ing the R.C.M.P. will act on be­half of the Town re­gard­ing any ac­tions or com­mit­tee rep­re­sen­ta­tion re­quired.

Equip­ment Dis­posal. Per­mis­sion was granted to dis­pose of the 1997 Mo­bil Athey M9B Sweeper unit by public auc­tion in Ed­mon­ton at Os­man Auc­tions. This still leaves Ed­son with two newer sweep­ers.

SOA’s. Coun­cil has agreed to ex­tend the fol­low­ing SOA’s awarded to McPhee Con­struc­tion Ltd. for an ad­di­tional year end­ing De­cem­ber 31, 2016. The rates will re­main the same. SOA 16-2015 Gravel SOA 17-2015 Pit Run SOA 18-2015 Win­ter Gravel SOA 19-2015 Sand

Sub­di­vi­sion Ex­ten­sion. Coun­cil has granted an ex­ten­sion to a sub­di­vi­sion ap­pli­ca­tion at 7022 4th Av­enue in Glen­wood for an ad­di­tional year. The ap­pli­ca­tion will now ex­pire Septem­ber 10, 2016.

Sub­di­vi­sion Ap­pli­ca­tion. Coun­cil has ap­proved a sub­di­vi­sion ap­pli­ca­tion on the north­west edge of the Town bound­ary. This de­vel­op­ment is unique in that it is ti­tled within the Town and Yel­low­head County bound­aries. Ap­proval was given to sub­di­vide the land within the Town into 4 residential lots and an en­vi­ron­men­tal re­serve with the con­di­tions out­lined by the En­gi­neer­ing and Plan­ning Com­mit­tee.

The next Coun­cil Meet­ing is sched­uled for Oc­to­ber 20th at 7:30 p.m. in the Coun­cil Cham­bers of the Ed­son Civic Build­ing.
