Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year: A monologue
To all of our readers we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are not being politically correct and make no apologies for it. Our culture that we were brought up with is that this time of year is Christmas and New Year and that’s it. If we were living in another land with another culture, we would, of course, respect that one, and privately do our own thing.
In our view, political correctness has got way out of hand. More respect and tolerance all round please. If there was more of that in the world maybe we could stop killing each other for belief or grinding the little guy down in the pursuit of a buck. After all, you can’t take it with you.
If you’re travelling on the winter roads over the festive season please take care be responsible if you’re planning on having a drink, don’t drink and drive and using a mobile device is a just plain no.
On the topic of mobile devices maybe just set aside some time to leave them alone and actually talk to people. You may be surprised at the results.
My cellphone company is offering points now. I have points but there is nothing I want to spend them on. I could get a penguin shaped Bluetooth or a selfie stick with a mirror on it. Fantastic, I may never want for anything again.
In fact, the older I get the less stuff I seem to want and actually do, sell, give away or take stuff to the dump all of the time. Is this a clearing out process that one goes through in preparation for terminal downsizing? Have I started too early? Will I have to get more stuff to sell, give away or take to the dump to maintain my habit? Time will tell. Perhaps my crap detector has kicked in.
Anyway, I digress too much. Go out, stay in, be with those who love you and with those you love, eat and drink within your limits and be as happy as you can.
To all of our readers we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
