Jasper RCMP in­ves­ti­gate Ar­son

On De­cem­ber 12, 2016 Jasper RCMP, Jasper Vol­un­teer Fire Bri­gade and Jasper EMS were dis­patched to Cavell Apart­ments for a struc­ture fire. Upon ar­rival of first re­spon­ders, the fire had al­ready caused sig­nif­i­cant dam­age to the apart­ment. Fire­fight­ers were able to quickly con­tain and put the fire out. In the mean­time, po­lice had lo­cated and taken in cus­tody a male they be­lieved had started the fire.

Fur­ther investigation re­vealed that the male sus­pect po­lice had ar­rested had reck­lessly used a propane torch in­side the apart­ment and had wrapped it in a jacket be­fore throw­ing it in­side a fridge.

As a re­sult of this investigation, Tyler Colin GENAILLE, age 27, has been charged un­der the Crim­i­nal Code with one count of ar­son caus­ing prop­erty dam­age and one count of mis­chief over $5000. GENAILLE did not speak to bail and has been re­manded in cus­tody. He is set to ap­pear at the Jasper Pro­vin­cial Court on De­cem­ber 22nd, 2016.
