Cap­i­tal Projects Up­date

Fa­cil­ity Ser­vices pro­vided their reg­u­lar up­dates to the Board on two cur­rent cap­i­tal projects in the di­vi­sion: the mod­ern­iza­tion project for Grande Cache Com­mu­nity High School (GCCHS) and the re­place­ment school in Ed­son.

GCCHS: Ma­sonry and struc­tural steel work is now com­pleted. The gym roof in­stal­la­tion is com­pleted and ex­te­rior cladding work has started. The me­chan­i­cal in­stal­la­tions have be­gun on the mez­za­nine with the me­chan­i­cal equip­ment lifted into place. The gym and gath­er­ing area con­crete slabs are to be poured after the Christ­mas break.

Ed­son: The foun­da­tion has been wa­ter proofed and back­filled, block work in­stal­la­tion is con­tin­u­ing on the gym­na­sium and steel in­stal­la­tion start this month.

• Trustees ap­proved an amend­ment to the trans­fer of funds to op­er­at­ing and cap­i­tal re­serves for the com­ple­tion of the Au­dited Fi­nan­cial State­ment for the year end­ing Au­gust 31, 2016. After a de­tailed pre­sen­ta­tion from Juha Karén, As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent - Busi­ness Ser­vices, the ac­cepted State­ment will now be for­warded to the Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion as di­rected.

School coun­cils’ pro­vided their in­di­vid­ual An­nual Re-port which in­cluded an out­line of their goals and ob-jec­tives over the past year to the Board of Trustees at to­day’s meet­ing.

Sandy Ax­mann, Su­per­vi­sor of Learn­ing Ser­vices, spoke about the var­i­ous ini­tia­tives and events that are part of the di­vi­sion’s very suc­cess­ful First Na­tions, Mėtis and Inuit (FNMI) pro­gram­ming. GYPSD’s goals con­tinue to be fo­cused on im­prov­ing high school com-ple­tion rates, suc­cess­ful tran­si­tion rates, and rais­ing achieve­ment lev­els for FNMI stu­dents by im­ple­ment­ing strong foun­da­tional re­search and strength based pro­gram­ming, form­ing com­mu­nity part­ner­ships and en­gag­ing par­ents.
