Capital Projects Update
Facility Services provided their regular updates to the Board on two current capital projects in the division: the modernization project for Grande Cache Community High School (GCCHS) and the replacement school in Edson.
GCCHS: Masonry and structural steel work is now completed. The gym roof installation is completed and exterior cladding work has started. The mechanical installations have begun on the mezzanine with the mechanical equipment lifted into place. The gym and gathering area concrete slabs are to be poured after the Christmas break.
Edson: The foundation has been water proofed and backfilled, block work installation is continuing on the gymnasium and steel installation start this month.
Other News in Brief
• Trustees approved an amendment to the transfer of funds to operating and capital reserves for the completion of the Audited Financial Statement for the year ending August 31, 2016. After a detailed presentation from Juha Karén, Assistant Superintendent - Business Services, the accepted Statement will now be forwarded to the Minister of Education as directed.
School councils’ provided their individual Annual Re-port which included an outline of their goals and ob-jectives over the past year to the Board of Trustees at today’s meeting.
Sandy Axmann, Supervisor of Learning Services, spoke about the various initiatives and events that are part of the division’s very successful First Nations, Mėtis and Inuit (FNMI) programming. GYPSD’s goals continue to be focused on improving high school com-pletion rates, successful transition rates, and raising achievement levels for FNMI students by implementing strong foundational research and strength based programming, forming community partnerships and engaging parents.
