Crushers drop preseason opener in OT

SUMMERSIDE – The Pictou County Weeks Crushers lost 3-2 in overtime to the Western Capitals in Summerside on Saturday. Brodie McArthur’s overtime tally was the difference in the Maritime Junior Hockey League preseason game. Logan Vanderveld­on and Morgan MacDonald also scored for the Caps. Ryan Roche and Michael Dill had the Crusher goals, with Dill tying it up 2-2 with one second remaining in the third period. The teams played again last night at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. A final score wasn’t available by press time. In other news, defenceman Mark Kennedy and forwards Jacob Hickey and Nick Fewer were all released by their respective major junior teams on the weekend and are expected to join the Crushers’ training camp within the next few days.
