Iris Gwendolyn Foote
MERIGOMISH – Iris Gwendolyn Foote, 82, Merigomish, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Winnifred (Lewis) Church.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish, where she was serving on the Board of Managers. Iris was a faithful member, volunteering in various ways. She served as treasurer for many years and was a 50-year member of the choir.
Iris was an avid reader who enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She possessed a social consciousness and treated all equally. Iris enjoyed participating in community and church activities, especially the social aspect. She was a wonderful lady who leaves a legacy of love.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Albert Foote; son, Stephen (Vivian Soetikno) Foote, Markham, Ont.; daughter, Ann Foote, Merigomish; brothers, Roy Church (Jennie), St. John’s, N.L.; David (Lynne) Church, Halifax; Paul Church, Lower Sackville; grandchildren: Albert and Ernest Foote, Christopher and Alexander Harper; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, Lewis Church; sisters-in-law, Judy, Claudia and Joan.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. today, in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish, with Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating.
Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Merigomish.
Donations may be made in Iris’ memory to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church or St. Paul’s Cemetery.
