Ger­maine MacNeil

Ger­maine MacNeil, 98, of High Crest Place, New Glas­gow, for­merly of Stellarton, passed away Oc­to­ber 11, 2017, at the Aberdeen Hospi­tal, with loved ones by her side.

Born in Stellarton she was a daugh­ter of the late John and Al­berta (Facey) MacLel­lan. Ger­maine spent her en­tire life lov­ing and nur­tur­ing her fam­ily as well as friend­ships past, present, and fu­ture. Right up to the end, she dis­played an in­cred­i­bly ac­cu­rate mem­ory. There was never a per­son she met that she couldn’t con­nect the dots to their her­itage in Pic­tou County and give them in­for­ma­tion on their fam­i­lies that they may never had known. She loved peo­ple and was a strong con­ver­sa­tion­al­ist through her 98 years un­til her pass­ing. She was a lov­ing Nana who will be sorely missed but al­ways re­mem­bered.

Ger­maine is sur­vived by her grand­chil­dren: Steven (Su­san Dale Smi­ley) Hec­i­movich, Dart­mouth; Ger­maine (Daniel) Duffy, Dart­mouth; Wil­liam (Ch­eryl) Hec­i­movich, Dart­mouth; 10 great- grand­chil­dren; 13 great-great grand­chil­dren; sis­ters-in-law Edna MacLel­lan, Dart­mouth; Mur­dena MacLel­lan, New Glas­gow; Leona and Sam Turn­bull, Stellarton, loved like a daugh­ter and son-in-law; step­son John (Alice) MacNeil; and many nieces and neph­ews whom she loved dearly.

She was pre­de­ceased by her first hus­band Clarence W. Lowe, sec­ond hus­band Or­mal S. MacNeil, a son, Clarence M. Lowe, a daugh­ter M. Cavell Hec­i­movich, broth­ers: Daniel, Alex, Peter and Colin MacLel­lan; sis­ters E. Cavell Barr, Lilly MacLel­lan and grand­son-in-law John Dauphi­nee.

Her re­mains will rest in the H.C. MacQuar­rie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton, for vis­it­ing from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Fri­day from where funeral ser­vices will be held at 11 a.m. Satur­day with Rev. Jim Shaffner pre­sid­ing. A re­cep­tion will fol­low in the funeral home. Burial will take place in Heatherdale Memo­rial Gar­dens fol­low­ing the re­cep­tion.

Do­na­tions in mem­ory of Ger­maine may be made to the Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton, or to a char­ity of one’s choice.
