Museum Pieces performing in New Glasgow Friday
He’s been to the top of the rock business working with Arcade Fire and now Tyler Messick wants to blaze his own trails.
The Halifax resident will play an acoustic set with Pictou County native Virgil Muir — the duo is known as Museum Pieces — on July 13 at the Studio Art Gallery in New Glasgow.
“It’s kind of a hometown show of him,” said Messick.
Born outside Philadelphia, the 38-year-old Messick moved to Nova Scotia when he was a teenager.
In 2007, he became friends with Win Butler of Arcade Fire, and Messick assisted on several projects, including their Grammywinning “Suburbs” album.
After many years working with Butler in Montreal, Tyler returned to Nova Scotia to release and perform his own music again. His new album “Plain Sight” was recorded in Arcade Fire’s studio and mixed in Halifax by noted musician Joel Plaskett.
“It’s very Plaskett-esque — Joel mixed it and I grew up watching him a lot.”
A rock album with notable Tom Petty influences, “Plain Sight” is available on all the major streaming sites.
“I believe in Nova Scotia music and I want to be a part of it,” says Messick.
